Well, I don't recognize any folks from my time at IAS, May 72 to June 73, Dawg Flt. Hopefully some old X1s & others may show. Some of my Keesler classmates were assigned with me.....
Yep, this site is pretty quiet! I figure at some point it will get more active. In the mean time, don't worry, the site's not gonna go anywhere, promise
Hi Gary, I just found this site. I spent 6 years in the Air Force. I was at IAS Jan 73 to Nov 75. Before that I was an instructor at Keesler for 2/12 years. I spent about 3 months at San Vito on a TDY assignement just before getting out. Like you I hope there is some activity on this site. I would like to hear from some of the guys and gals stationed there. Have not been back since but plan to visit Crete in the next year or so.
My name is Marty, I worked at the firestation from 86-88. I was always dying to know of course what is going on in the "pound". I mowed the grass at the firestation and we had to call security first or we could be arrested for going near the fence. Anyone remember the "VIL" and that great pita stand up the hill from the base. I'd kill for one of those pitas right now. Have you all seen the video on youtube of present day IAS? Sad really....

On man, the Pita Stand! God I would love to be able to go back in time, and eat there again, and chase it down with some cold beer! Just thinking about it now makes me hungry
Hi All, Been a member for over a year, but never posted before. I was a ditty bopper on Baker flight '72 - '75, but actually worked in the day shop in the "pound" for about a year in '74 and '75. I was there during the ."Greed Uprising". The way I remember it !! It was during the Cyprus Crisis and when Kisinger sided with the Turks, it made the Greeks really mad. Dave and I had a Greek friend - Myron Stoubidis - who was in the Greek Army. He was from Iraklion and his family owned hotels on Crete. Anybody remember him?? Anyway, getting off on a tangent, he told us all about it. I was part of the burning documents at the pound. We had to burn everything that was classified - all our manuals, etc. You should have seen the guys from Kelly the next week bringing copies to us. They looked like "real spies!!" I loved every minute of being there and would love to hear from fellow "Cretans". At least we were for a little while.
I remember the uprising - I had just left Crete for 'Vito - spent a big break setting up tents and then helping the '48th get familiar with the mission. What a time that was!
Was a X1 on Charlie Flt from 12/68 to 6/71. Think about Crete often when reading all the articles and looking at all the photo albums. Loved every minute of it. Had a lot of good friends there that I still remember today. Wish I could see all of them.
I guess I use the site as much as anyone, I try to check in once in awhile just to see if anything has happened from my time on the rock 59 to late 60's I now look at her different, a better part of my life. "AL"
