Does anybody out there in CYBER WORLD know what NUMBERED AIR FORCE the 6931st was assigned to, way back in 77-78. After 30 years my senority has kicked in and i have forgotten or I just never paid attention. I am making a display case with all the numbered Air Forces I was assigned to. THANKS Randy.
I don't have the foggiest idea, and hoped someone else would.
I'm not sure. In 1977, everything was still USAFSS, and the ESC had not come into being. From what little I have been able to uncover, it looks as though USAFSS was under a Numbered Air Force, just don't know which one. It's been too long, and I don't remember any of it anymore. Hmmm, CRS has set in................
Okay, from what I have found, Third Air Force must have been over the 6931st, since it fell in the European Theatre of Operations. Still trying to confirm that with another source though.
I also think it was under USAFSS at least up to the time I left in 70.I did have to send paperwork to USAFE when I had a problem in 77 while on leave in Crete.????MAC
Numbered Air Forces are under Maj-Coms at the time in question USAFSS or ESC was a Maj-Com and they didn't have numbered AF's there was a USAFE/ESD Directorert O-6 at USAFE Headquarters. After ESC became an agency the 6931st would have been under the 16th Air Force then located at that time in Torrejon AB in Spain then it moved to Aviano AB in Italy. Hope this helps. THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!! This will give me a good starting point. I can check out the 3rd and the 16th. So far I have found that I was assigned to six different Numbered Air Forces with the 6931st and the 351st Missile Security Squadron out of Whiteman AFB, Missouri. Thanks again everybody, and if anybody can find out for sure LET ME KNOW! I am making military style Short Timers sticks with chromed 50 caliber rounds cut in half and attached to the ends of different types of wood. I hope they turn out some what like the one my brother brought home from Viet Nam.
